The ETCMouse monitoring system generates a single data stream that contains both the respiratory as well as the heartbeat signal of the animal.  One means to visualize the two signals is through the use of spectrograms which display the different time components of the signal as a function of time. Since they are based on a Fourier transform  analysis, transforms execute extremely fast.

The ETCMouse program provides filtering and graphical tools to extract heartbeat and respiratory rates. Below is an example of the decreasing breathing interval of a 31 gm mouse waking up.
