ETCMouse is a wireless , non-invasive physiological monitoring system for mobile rodents such as rats and particularly mice

The sensor is part of a saddle-mounted assembly that has been tested on mice between 20 - 32 gm. The transmitter without the sensor belt is shown below relative to a dime.

Mounting the device on the anaesthetized mouse requires  about 5 minutes. De-hairing the mouse’s chest area is recommended.

The wireless transmission system lasts up to 6 weeks on one watch battery that can be replaced.

The receiver platform fits beneath a standard-sized cage

The receiver platform outputs a  ±10 Volt analogue signal. Below is an sample of the data stream for a sleeping mouse.

16-bit data acquisition at 1024 Hz is highly recommended.  Empirical can provide  commercially available  A/D systems or the user can utilize  their existing data collection system.

A software program is provided to record and

store data, with certain A/D hardware, as well

as import and post-process data files for the

extraction of breathing and heartbeat rates.

Real-time processing is not available

at this time but will be in future upgrades.
