CareTaker is a wireless and non-
CareTaker is NOT FDA approved to be used for investigational purposes only. While the claims listed below are supported by the data collected so far, they have to be considered hypothetical at this point.
CareTaker operates entirely passively at a low constant coupling pressure of 40 mmHg. After being provided a calibrated blood pressure reading, CareTaker tracks blood pressure by analyzing the timing and amplitudes of the primary left ventricular ejection pulse as well as the arterial pulse reflections, at the middle phalange of the middle finger.
The CareTaker device is controlled from and streams data to the CareTaker software running on a PC computer. Communication is wireless using the Bluetooth transmission protocol.
The device weighs 4 oz and runs for about 12 hours on a single battery charge.
Since the CareTaker tracks pulse reflections that stem from the central arteries, it appears to be capable of tracking central blood pressure.
Recent experiments furthermore suggest that the CareTaker technology is particularly suitable as a hemorrhage detector. This is due to the fact that PDA is particularly adept at tracking pulse pressure, which is a sensitive and specific marker for central hypovolemia.
Cardiovascular parameters that will be included in future upgrades are:
Respiration rate and variability
Blood pressure variability
Heart rate variability
Cardiac output
Stroke volume
